I had the pleasure of mentoring a 2-week cohort of students from Brown University and NYU to witness the manifestation of the Island17 metaverse prototype. I was already sold on the mission of Dream Tank founded by Heidi Cuppari and my experience with bringing youth into the decision-tree of disrupting the future….

Island 17 builds on six years of Dream Tank’s iconic DREAM-DESIGN-LAUNCH social impact accelerator programming to create a scalable decentralized infrastructure for collective action. Having helped 1000s of young social entrepreneurs solve local and global challenges, changing 3 laws and creating several patent-pending SDG-based innovations, we knew it was time to take it to the next level. Life is a game. What’s unique about Island17 is its distinct focus on pioneering new ways of living, being, working, playing, and relating to one another. Island17 is a community-owned and community-driven world that bridges the gap between online and offline realities to share ideas, collaborate, and pioneer creative solutions to the problems that matter most to them. Thanks to our built-in real-world datasets and partnerships with local organizations and communities, gamers can learn, earn, and drive tangible progress towards the SDGs by immersing themselves in play. We incorporate impact-based tokenization incentives into a blockchain ecosystem to allow players to not only design businesses but find funding for their ideas and solutions as well. Why 17? 17 stands for the 17th Sustainable Development Goal, which is partnerships – as we can’t achieve any significant change in the world without creating the conditions for economically driven, self-motivated collaboration. In just two weeks, XX students from Brown University and NYU created the MVP for a [insert a line about the game— the culmination of 6 years of VR research, hackathons, and community-building by Dream Tank, an accelerator for equipping young, sharp, creative minds with the tools, skills, and mentoring required to build impactful social enterprises. This is just the start. What these incredible young professionals achieved in 14 days is nothing short of mind-blowing. Now, we’re looking to scale it—to build a metaverse with profound real-life application. This is a game. You’re the hero. Welcome to Level 1.

Island17 Demo Day
From January 3 through January 14, a group of extraordinary cross-sector leaders came together via Dream Tank to mentor 5 University Students as part of a 2 week “Careers for the Common Good Winternships” program through Brown University for students to get real world experience in gaming design and tokenomics. Witness what these students, along with other youth collaborators and mentors from diverse backgrounds accomplished in a 2-week sprint. Their mission was to build a prototype of the beginning elements of Island17 and launch our first NFT. Watch the teaser/animated storyboard below for a taste of what they’ll be working on. You and your kids, and young people or others in your life, can join the Island17 metaverse and be rewarded while designing a video game for a thriving future for all.

What is Island17?
Island17 is being built on the backbone of 6 years of learning and working with youth through Dream Tank even further by inviting the youth to address local and global challenges using the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development goals within a global online/offline multiplayer mission – based game which is community owned and driven, with youth innovation at its core. Island 17 builds off of and gamifies Dream Tank programming. 17 stands for the 17th Sustainable Development Goal which is partnerships – as we can’t achieve any significant change in the world without creating the conditions for economically driven, self-motivated collaboration. We will incorporate impact-based tokenization incentives via a blockchain ecosystem to allow youth to not only design businesses, but find funding for their ideas and solutions as well. 12:00 pm – 2:00pm EST: Breakout groups. Guests meet students in small groups to ask questions, be engaged, and learn how they can get involved. Three rooms to choose from:

Dear Dream Tank Global Family, As 2021 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to update you and reflect on what’s been happening in the Dream Tank Universe the past few months since you last heard from us. In August 2021, a family emergency took precedence and I had to put Dream Tank activities on hold for a few months to take care of it. In that time, through focusing on emotional and mental wellness for myself to be resilient for my family and this rapidly changing world, and creating a family legacy art gallery to bring my family together across generations to get through our crisis, a group of emerging leaders showed up in my sphere which turned out to be just the thing needed to help take the important work we’ve done at Dream Tank since 2016 to the next level. Our mission has always been to empower and unleash the innovative imaginative ideas of 1B+ young people under the age of 28, all working together to apply their skills, dreams and passion to address the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. I can say now with confidence that we have the most exciting, scalable, highly impactful solution that we will be birthing in 2022: |
